Gerard is a specialist in software patents in the UK, Europe, US, and the rest of the world. He advises tech companies both on protecting their IP and avoiding infringement.

Gerard currently advises over 100 tech start ups, working closely with CEOs, CTOs, and General Counsels to maximise the value of their companies through strategic use of intellectual property.

Gerard’s experience over 16 years in the profession includes leading the opposition to the Amazon one-click patent, patenting CGI for Lord of the Rings, protecting technology for Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Unisys and Cambridge Silicon Radio, and patenting computer game software in the UK for Mind Candy.

He has been identified as one of thirty leading patent attorneys in the country by the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, and is a contributor to the Innovation Handbook.

He is one of the few UK patent attorneys with a qualification in computer science (BSc).
